We’ve been working hard over the past few months to reduce our Close Protection Top-Up training course from 5 days down to 4. Prior to doing this we wanted to gain a full understanding of the full 5 day course so that we had as much knowledge as possible before considering reducing student contact time.
To ensure Awarding Organisation compliance as well as our own internal quality control measures, we have not rushed this and have taken a significant amount of our time to make sure that the four days are as good as they can be. Not only that, but we want to ensure that the work that students are now required to do in their own time is as good as it can be. To that end, a lot of time and effort has gone in to produce new workbooks for the students to complete at home, in their own time, in the run up to the course. We wanted to make sure that students are not disadvantaged with less face to face training time, but could benefit from one less day with away from work and loved ones. We have also been able to reduce the price of the course now that we are running at 4 days, rather than 5.
Quality Assurance
Not all Awarding Organisations (AO) work in the same way. We work with 3 different AOs, all of them are rigorous in their quality assurance – this suits us and our business model. We wanted to ensure that the 4-day course matched the learning outcomes that students must achieve but we also wanted to make sure that the course content remained as relevant and focussed as possible so that students have a full understanding of the new material.
The time and effort that we have put into this was well received by our Awarding Organisation, resulting in the official go-ahead to offer the reduced course from July. To anyone considering a shortened course (3 days) ensure that you ask the training provider that you chose for a copy of their permission to run anything less than 5 days from their awarding organisation, without it, they cannot do it and your qualification will be void.
