January 2024 is fast approaching and will be upon us before we know it. We are already in our planning phase for our January Close Protection course as we have several firm bookings and some strong enquires. It is completely reasonable for students to want to know what is happening, when, how and who with – we do recognise this and do what we can to make sure that as much information as possible is provided.
Communication
We will communicate effectively with you throughout all phases so that you are in no doubt where you need to be, at what time and with what equipment. What are the pre-course requirements? We have an element of pre-course learning that must be completed and evidenced – failure to complete this will mean that you cannot attend. We must be audit driven; as a training provider we are rigorously inspected by our various awarding organisations and by the Security industry Authority who recently doorstepped one of our courses.
Communication does not stop once you have completed your course with us. We are well known for our post course support – we would like to say that we were one of the first to offer on-going post course support and we must be one of the most consistent in this area.
Course Content
The Close Protection course is run by our head of training, Steve Heaney MC. Steve is supported by several other tutors and support staff throughout the course, all of whom are Argus graduates. The course is a mixture of classroom lessons backed up by practical scenario-based training. We talk about it; we then go out and do it. Every training provider should be able to give their own experiences to add validation to the classroom and practical sessions to help them make sense and provide a left and right of arc.
We have our own fleet of vehicles so that we can utilise them in our training scenarios – be it embus and debus, convoy driving, mobile navigation exercises, reconnaissance or the final exercises that we conduct at the end of the training phase.
Additional Subjects
We cover more than just the required course content because there so much more that should be covered, for example, you leave us, having successfully passed the course and then what. What happens next?! How do you apply for your license? How do you go about gaining experience in the industry? Interview and CV advice. How do you conduct yourself online? All of this matters and is intertwined into the fabric of the course and delivered at appropriate times but without impacting on the guided learning hours for the course.
Evidence
Where appropriate, training sessions are recorded on video and held at the centre along with the relevant paperwork to show that we are being compliant with our awarding body and the Security Industry Authority. This is mandatory. You cannot sign out of this. It does not get posted online but is retained inline with awarding body and SIA guidelines.
Students coming to Argus Europe should know that their qualifications are safe with us. We have NEVER failed an awarding body audit; we have never had any actions imposed against us and when the SIA doorstepped recently we had no actions or recommendations as a result of their visit.
Mid-Course Employer Presentation
We will have at least one, hopefully two, employers come in and speak with the January 2024 course about employment opportunities with them. Company #1 offer a significant amount of residential security for high net-worth clients, both in the UK and overseas in various territories and have a diary 3 years ahead so you can plan your life around their work. The students that go on to work for them usually work 2 weeks on and 2 weeks off for UK based stuff, or month on, month off for their overseas based stuff. Company #2 are a multi-national who work all over the world offering a huge amount of work in complex environments. generally. The opportunities arising from employer #2 are for the former military students, but this is not exclusively the case.
We do not promise anyone employment if they attend our Close Protection training courses but we offer enough opportunities, either directly or indirectly for people to at least get their return on investment back with us but you must be the sort of person with an element of get up and go. If your get up and go, has got up and gone, then this industry is not for you!
100% Pass Rate
We do not operate such a policy and never have. The course is pass/fail and you can fail in a variety of ways. There are a number of exams that have to be taken – this is out of our control, we do not mark them. If an exam is failed, an exam can be retaken. There are a number of practical assessments that have to be completed; all must be passed but they do not have to be passed first time and just like an exam, if you do not pass a certain element, then you will be offered the opportunity to retake it after undertaking some additional training.
End of Course
Each course will leave knowing, a) how they did and b) what the next steps are. Each course will have a direct line to us and also previous course attendees so that they can take advantage of the opportunities that are presented to them. We encourage Argus Graduates to maintain contact with us and if they are unsure then they should reach out and ask the question!
